An operations/departmental manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy.

It could also be suitable for those having the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills who are accountable to a senior manager or business owner.

 

This qualification recognises the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to:

 

  • create and deliver operational plans

  • manage projects

  • lead and manage teams

  • manage change

  • carry out financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.

They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same.

Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. Roles may include: Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and specialist managers.

The Apprenticeship consists of:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Operational and Departmental Management (RQF)

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics

  • Operation/Departmental Manager Standard

The new Apprenticeship Standard developed by Trailblazer groups, which were led by employers in the industry are different and now have an End-Point Assessment which consists of:

  • Knowledge Test using scenarios and questions

  • Structured competency-based Interview

  • assessment of Portfolio of Evidence

  • Work based Project assessment with presentation and Q&A session

  • Professional Discussion
