Children, Young People & Families Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship Standard

Typical duration: 12 - 18 months

 

Cost: £6000 or 5% contribution for Non-Levy employers

Requirements: Undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result

As a Manager you ensure direction, alignment and commitment within your own practice, your team(s), your organisation and across partnerships to help children, young people and families aspire to do their best and achieve sustainable change. You build teams, manage resources and lead new approaches to working practices that deliver improved outcomes and put the child, young person or family at the centre of practice. 

You may work either as a Manager in Children's Residential Care or as a Children, Young People and Families Manager in the Community in a range of settings in local authorities, within health organisations, educational and early years settings or children's centres, as well as a wide range of private voluntary and community organisations.

The apprenticeship forms part of the children's homes regulations which came into force in April 2015, and is the recommended qualification for those working in children's homes from January 2015.

The Apprenticeship Standard for Children, Young People & Families Manager offers two optional routes: 

Option 1 (Manager in Children's Residential Care): Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare

Option 2 (Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community): Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care

The Apprenticeship Standard consists of:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF) - Option 1

        or (depending on your service)

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and young People's Services (RQF) - Option 2

  • Level 2 English Functional Skills

  • Level 2 Maths Functional Skills

The new Apprenticeship Standard developed by Trailblazer groups, which were led by employers in the industry are different and now have a End-Point Assessment which consists of:

  • Situational Judgement Test

  • Competence Interview and Portfolio of Evidence
